State Assessments: Next week we will start our first of two sets of state assessments. On Tuesday and Thursday we will be taking the ELA (Reading) assessments. Then on April 18 & 20th we will take the math assessment. Please plan appointments and trips around these dates. Students need to have a good breakfast and plenty of sleep so they can do their very best on these assessments. This week I will be talking to the kids about the assessment, giving them a sneak preview to what the test will look like, and talking about setting goals for the upcoming testing.
Day at the Farm: Each year the high school FFA class presents a Day at the Farm to the third grade classes. On this day we will travel to the Leavenworth County Fairgrounds and learn about different aspects of farm life. Students will be receiving a note about lunches that day by the end of the week.
This week we will be starting a new math unit on area and perimeter. Students will learn the basic concepts of how to measure and determine the area and perimeter of various shapes. We will finish the unit with a fun extension activity where the kids will work in groups to design a zoo using what they have learned in the unit.
In reading we will be reading a story about Surviving on Mount Everest, focusing on identifying the main idea and supporting details in this non-fiction text. For science we will be starting a unit on magnetism and experimenting with magnets.
Enjoy your week!
