Good Afternoon! I hope you have enjoyed the rainy weekend with your families. I spent mine cleaning, doing grad work, lesson planning for this next week in class and then watched a rerun of the Chiefs game with my wonderful husband. I can't believe we are a week away from the end of the first quarter. Conferences are just around the corner. Many of you have already signed up for a conference time through skyward. I sent out an email to all parents on the email that you registered with enrollment to explain how to choose a conference time. If you do not have internet access, please call me at school with your three preferred times, or send a note with your child and I will do my best to plug you one of those times.
We have a pretty full week ahead of us, so I will share some of the highlights... 1. State Assessment Practice: The class will be getting a look at what the state assessment will look like in April. We will do a practice assessment in both math and reading this week. This gives the kiddos a look at the assessment on the computer, how to manipulate the different ways they can answer questions, and it also gives the teachers predictive look with formative data to help inform instruction. We will take math on Tuesday and reading on Thursday. Unfortunately, the practice assessments do not have the typical accommodations that are standard during the real test. 2. Parent Teacher Conference Sign-Ups: I mentioned up above that I sent an email last week to everyone about signing up for conferences through Skyward. If you have not done this, please do so. If you are a family without internet, please give me a call during planning (8:10-8:45), or send me a not with your three top choices and I will do the best I can to accommodate those times. 3. Historical Society Field Trip: Next Monday, October 15th we will head over to the Tonganoxie Historical Society Museum to talk a step back in time and learn about the history of Tonganoxie. Thank you to the parents who have volunteered to help that day. If you have volunteered, please meet us at the Historical Museum, which is located behind West Haven Baptist Church, at 12:20 p.m. We will be eating lunch at school in our room, as we have to leave and load the bus during our normal lunch times. Please understand that we ask that younger siblings do not attend this trip with the classes. Thank you! 4. Halloween Party: Our classroom Halloween party will be held on October 31, from 10:00-10:30 in the morning. I will have a sign up sheet at conferences. If you would like to head up and plan the party, please let me know! I would love a volunteer!! 5. Student Websites: We have been exploring quite a few websites in class that work on math and reading skills. You can locate those links on our student links page for kids to access them from home. I will give you a quick run down of some of the options. * Get Epic! It's a site with 1,000's of books that kids can read, or have read to them. https://www.getepic.com/app/sign_in * Reflex Math: This site is gamed based and works kids through their math facts. It's a great way to practice facts and reach goals. https://accounts.explorelearning.com/reflex/student?_ga=2.210613655.305055600.1538957676-887688984.1538957676 * Prodigy: This website works on math concepts of all levels. It gives an assessment and places each of the kiddos at their own level. It is also game based, so they don't realize they are actually working on math concepts. They love this site and ask to play all the time! And it's free! https://play.prodigygame.com/ * Study Island: This site allows me to go in and assign specific tasks in reading and math according to what we are working on in class and I can align the lessons with their MAP Score. This is a site that the district has purchased for us and just became available this week. I will be having the kids log in and get started on it, and do believe that they can access it from home as well. https://www.studyisland.com/login I will also get all these links uploaded onto the the weebly student website page here shortly.
