In math we will continue to work on multiplication and division through the beginning of the year. Students have the basic concepts of how to multiply and divide...now comes the hard part, memorizing and learning the facts. We have started our math fact boot camp in class and students get to work on Reflex on the computer which reinforces the facts. Reflex can be played from home and families are always welcome to practice facts as home. You can also practice math facts with some fun games at home. The first we do in class is called "SPEED". Two people play, role two dice, and multiply. The person with the first correct product is the winner. We also play with cards. Divide the pile of playing cards in half, each person turns a card at the same time. Then multiply. Person who states the product first gets both cards. The person with the most cards after their stack is gone is the winner.
This week and next we will be doing a Polar Express unit. We have learned about point of view, recalled details from the story (not the movie), and next week we will be learning about figurative and literal language. On Tuesday the 18th we will be watching the movie Polar Express. The kiddos are welcome to wear the pajamas that day to school.
We have some needs in the classroom. Most of our glue sticks and expo markers have dried out or have disappeared. This would be a great time of the year to donate some of these items to the classroom. We are also out of clorox wipes for our desks.
MAP testing will be next week on Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday. Please make sure appointments are scheduled on other days and that your child gets a good night sleep and breakfast the days of the test.
Winter is upon us and our weather has been quite blustery over the last week or two. Our school policy is to go out to recess if the temperature is not below 20 degrees or windchill is not below 10. Please make sure your child is dressed appropriately for the weather.
